Gourmet Magazine Closes its Pages

I don’t believe it: after 68 years Condé Nast Publications is shutting down Gourmet Magazine, along with a few of its other publications. According to a post in the New York Times, the culprit is the economy; the publisher has lost about 8,000 magazine advertising pages due to the recession. Perhaps Gourmet’s demise also has something to do with new media edging out certain publications. Still it’s a shock to lose a highly regarded journal that’s been running since December, 1940. The November 2009 issue will be its last; au revoir — we’ll miss you.
